What a no sleep page is

A no sleep page is a browser tab whose only job is to stop the display from sleeping. This one is free. You do not install anything for basic use. Open the tab, turn the switch on, and stay on that tab. The page does not rewrite Windows or Mac power settings, and it does not ask for an account. When you are done, close the tab or turn the switch off and the display follows the timeout you already set.

People use a no sleep page when the idle timer is right for the rest of the day but wrong for the next hour. A recipe on the counter, a slide waiting for questions, a log you are watching, or a call where you step away from the keyboard all fit. The tab is the switch. Close it and the display follows your normal timeout again. You do not have to remember a second visit to system settings to undo the hour.

How to use this no sleep page

Use the control at the top. Pick ten minutes, thirty minutes, one hour, two hours, always on, or a custom length. Flip the switch. The status line counts down, and the note under it reminds you that the tab has to stay open and visible. If you change the duration while it is running, the lock stops so you can start clean with the new time. Nothing starts until you choose that duration and turn the switch on.

Basic use needs no extension. The page itself is the tool. Bookmark it if you want the same no sleep page tomorrow. The bookmark loads with the switch off, so nothing holds the display until you choose a duration and turn it on. That matters on a shared computer: opening the address does not change how the machine sleeps for the next person.

Keep the tab visible

This no sleep page works while the tab is the one you are looking at. Browsers release a wake lock when the tab is hidden or the window is minimized. If you move to another app and the screen still sleeps, the tab was no longer in front. Come back, confirm the switch is on, and leave the tab where you can see it. A second monitor is fine as long as this tab stays visible on one of the displays.

An extension is optional, and only if you need the hold while the browser sits in the background. Install it when you must show slides, a desktop app, or another site and still prevent display sleep. For basic use, skip it. Open this tab and stay on it. The page is a visible tool, not a silent system service, and it does not ask for permission to run when the window is hidden.

When it is the right tool

Use a no sleep page for a bounded session. Reading at a counter, following a workout, watching a dashboard in a meeting room, or leaving notes on screen during a call are sessions with a clear end. A system setting of never has no end, and it is easy to forget on a laptop that later rides in a bag. A timed tab matches the session and then gets out of the way.

It is the wrong tool if you need the machine fully awake while locked, while the lid is closed, or while nobody is in the room. Locking the session and closing the lid are system behaviors. A no sleep page does not override them. It also does not lower brightness for you. Dim the panel yourself if the session is long, because an awake display is the main power cost, not the page.

A routine you can repeat

Open the page before the task, not after the display has already gone dark. Choose a duration that ends soon after the task. Turn the switch on. Keep the tab visible. When you finish, turn it off or close the tab. The next session starts the same way, with the switch off until you need it. Chrome and Edge are the reliable browsers if another one says the wake lock is unsupported.

If several people share the computer, this routine is kinder than a permanent power-plan edit. Each person opens the page for their own hour and leaves the machine's defaults alone. Nothing is stored in an account, and nothing is installed for that basic hour. The screen stays on only while this tab is visible and the switch is on.

FAQ

Is this no sleep page free?

Yes. There is no account and no install for basic use. Open the tab, pick a duration, and turn the switch on. The effect ends when you turn it off, the timer ends, or the tab closes.

Do I need the extension?

No for basic use. Keep this tab visible. Add the extension only when the browser must sit in the background while another window is the one you are looking at.

Will it stop the computer from locking?

No. A manual lock or a closed lid still sleeps the machine. The page only blocks idle display sleep while the tab is visible and the switch is on.

Does it work on phones?

On phones and tablets with a supported browser, yes, as long as this tab stays on screen. Switching apps can release the lock. Come back to the tab if the countdown has stopped.
